BENIN CITY- The former Deputy Governor of Edo State,RT Hon Comrade Philip Shuaibu has been presented with a prestigious award as the sport man of the year,at the festival Hall Government House,Benin city in recognition of his exceptional leadership, dedication and outstanding contributions to the development of sports.
It would be recalled that RT Hon Comrade Philip Shuaibu was the first sitting Deputy Governor to play football in company of Bendel Insurance football team with exceptional record of performance and absolute commitment to sports development.
The award was presented to RT Hon Comrade Philip Shuaibu as part of the activities to commemorate this year’s International women’s day celebration with the Theme:For All women and Girls, Rights, Equality Empowerment.
The former deputy Governor who cherished the award said it Will spur him to rededicate his service to the idea of building a formidable sports entity as envisioned by Edo State Government,which informed the determination of the Governor to allow him remain as the chairman of Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens football clubs.
RT Hon Comrade Philip Shuaibu said sports remains one of the Goldmines aside oil to derive huge profits and provide employment to youths with a view to unlocking their potential,if the right people are saddle with the responsibility of managing the sport sector of the Economy effectively.
He expressed satisfaction over the domestication of sports, with the creation of sports commission different from the ministries in Edo State and appointment of capable hands and renowned sports Administrators to pilot the affairs of the commission.
The former deputy Governor commended women for their dedication, resilience,as home builders,managers of men and resources as they joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate this year’s International women’s day.
RT Hon Comrade Shuaibu called on African Leaders to help women in unlocking their potentials by breaking away traditional and religious barriers militating against the effective utilisation of women potentials in Nation building.
