The growing public concerns over the rising wave of youth involvement in same-sex practice and violation of the Same-Sex marriage Prohibition Act of 2014 as reached its crescendo as many of the violators either succeed in escaping being arrested or often times are lynched to death before the arrival of law enforcement officers.
In present day Nigeria, the practice is viewed with strong aversion as many perceive the act as sacrilegious enough to incur the irrevocable wraths of ancestors of the land upon innocent members of the community where such desecration had taken place.
In view of this, individuals particularly youths who are sexually attracted to persons of same-sex in nature have opted to practice this evil “taboos” in secrecy in order to avoid the prying eyes by going to remote and secluded places or into isolation in order to avoid being caught in the act in clear violation of relevant provisions of the Same-Sex marriage Prohibition Act 2014.
There have been several transformations either positively or negatively impacting in influence as practices hitherto alien to cultural values and norms in Nigerian societies are now viewed as natural way of life ostensibly as a direct influence of western practice.
This sacrilegious practice of Same-sex practice is gradually eroding our cultural values by surreptitiously creeping into every facet of our human existence in every Nigerian society however in secrecy.
The critical issues at stake here is homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and other related practice which in the actual fact are allien to the Nigeria society as there are growing cases of the sacrilegious practice in Nigerian societies following the passage of the Same-sex Prohibition Act 2014 which prescribes 10-14 years imprisonment for violations.
With the enforcement of the punitive measures against the practice in place, the taboo has still since continued unabated by gaining popular acceptabillity particularly amongst youths.
Some of the offenders of these sacrilegious misconducts caught in the act have either be compelled to do the needful according to the dictates of custom and traditions in the community where such desecration had taken place as many are summarily made to atone for their atrocities by subjecting them to ancestral cleansing in the desecrated community or are often declared wanted after fleeing for violating the Same-sex Act .
In one of the reports under scrutiny is the case of a Same-sex crime committed in July 2015 in Amai -Ogume -Kwale road ,Amai in Delta state of Nigeria, involving one Ifeanyichukwu Marvis Chibueze who hails from neighbouring village Abbi and his partner one Clement Onyemali both of whom were caught in the act by neighbors.
The tales of the two males who were mercilessly tortured by a crowd of angry mob in their immediate environment remain very fresh in etched in the memories everyone present at the scene because of the amount of venom unleashed on the two males involved in the sacrilegious act
According to recent findings , a source from the community disclosed that when the duo were caught in the act and violently manhandled, it was said that the said Mr Chibueze was tortured into a coma while his partner Clement however managed to escape .
However, following the prompt intervention of the police, he was rescued from the hands of the angry mob and hospitalized at an undisclosed health centre where he was eventually stabilized and treated before his eventual escape from the health facility.
His escape, the source stated, led to the immediate dismissal of the nurse on duty (names undisclosed) and investigation into the case as the whereabouts of the escapee could not be asertained by the police who perceived she deliberately colluded with the suspect to aid his escape from the health facility.
However, recent findings revealed that there are confirmed cases of aggravated assaults on the family of Mr Chibueze by the dismissed nurse who claimed he (Chibueze) was responsible for her present ordeal.
Confronted with the current prevailing financial challenges preventing her from providing for the immediate needs of her family occasioned by her job loss, she relocated to Edo State after several years.
Fortunately for her sometime around July 2023, the source noted that she was reliably informed that the said culprit,Mr Ifeanyichukwu Marvis Chibueze who was responsible for her job loss was back in the state from his hiding and she promptly alerted the police who earlier declared him wanted as this was the only avenue to get exonerated and get justice as she had been unduly relieved of her job for what she knew nothing about
However, the fleeing escapees are still at large till date as the said Mr Ifeanyichukwu Marvis Chibueze whereabout and his family however remained unknown ,as the police have also declared him wanted .
Several cases bothering on homosexuality , lesbianism, bisexual, transgender and others abound in different communities as some remain unreported, even with the enforcement of the Anti-gay law passed in 2014 not seen to be discouraging the sacrilegious practice in Nigerian societies as there increased cases.
According to popular views on the issues of homosexuality, lesbianism and others related practice , curbing the menace of the sacrilegious practice of Same-sex practice in our societies requires the concerted efforts of every right thinking individuals including religious clerics in every community to check the perverse excesses common amongst morally depraved youths as this practice continues to attract widespread condemnation.
