BENIN CITY- The Uwaifo family of Ogbe N’ Alaka in Oredo Local Government areas of Edo State has said the conduct of Mr Matthew Uwaifo is not only a betrayal of the Benin kingdom and her people but an affront on the authority of the revered Oba of Benin , His Royal Majesty,Oba Ewuare II CFR
This was contained in a public announcement signed by Mr Osarume Uwaifo, Hannibal Uwaifo Esq and Mr Efe Uwaifo for the Uwaifo family of Ogbe N’ Alaka and made available to journalists.
They said the Uwaifo family finds it more bewildering because the claims by Mr Matthew Uwaifo are not only irresponsible but absolute falsehood.
“The Uwaifo family hereby dissociates themselves from the activities of Matthew and say categorically that he is on “his own ” and he is accountable for his transgressions.All members of the Uwaifo family are subjects of the Oba of Benin from whose authority and fountain they drink. Our family has been known from time immemorial to be fiercely loyal to the Oba of Benin and ready to defend the Palace with all at our disposal “.
The statement further added that for the avoidance of doubt, the said Mr Matthew Uwaifo has been suspended from the activities of the Uwaifo family and prayed to God Almighty to continue to guide and defend His Royal Majesty
It will be recalled that Mr Matthew Uwaifo was among the six that committed the sacrilegious conduct against the sacred traditions of Benin kingdom during his visit to Ooni of Ife
