BENIN CITY- Prominent Chiefs of the Oba of Benin have on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II CFR, Royal family and the entire people of Benin kingdom appreciates Sen Monday Okpebholo for deeming it fit and necessary to restore the full statutory rights of the Oba of Benin.
This was contained in a letter of appreciation signed by the prominent chiefs and made available to journalists in Benin City
“We respectfully wish to join His Royal Majesty to appreciate your excellency for respecting the rights and privileges of the Omo N’ Oba as the only Traditional Ruler of Benin kingdom in Edo South Senatorial District and custodian of the rich – cultural heritage ”
They further expressed gratitude to to him for supporting the Federal Government’s decision through a gazette recognizing the Oba of Benin as the exclusive owner of all returned Benin artifacts looted by the British colonial forces during the 1897 Benin massacre and abolishing the so called new traditional councils in Edo South Senatorial District created by the last administration, as well as withdrawal of the letter revoking the concession of Oba Akenzua II Ciltural Centre .
They added that His Royal , the Oba of Benin , deeply thanked his excellency for the respect that has been shown through his actions to the traditional institutions and the Omo N’ Oba and the restoration of all the Statutory Rights of His Royal Majesty. They also noted that the His Royal Majesty is overwhelmed by this unprecedented wonderful gesture.
The prominent chiefs that signed the appreciation letter on behalf of the His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II CFR, were Chief Norense Ozigbo-Esere ,Osuma of Benin , Chief George Igie Ekhator Obasogie , Obasogie of Benin, Chief Ediowe Oliha , Oliha of Benin , Chief Imafidon Ero , Ero of Benin , Chief Stanley Obamwonyi Esere of Benin and Chief Osaro Idah , Obazelu of Benin
