BENIN CITY- The Reliance Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council held their election yesterday at the conference room of the council.
The election which was supervised by the leaders of the union was keenly contested by some members of the chapel.
Those elected were Comrade Ehichioya Stephen Odion, Chairman, Comrade Stanley Igunbor, Vice Charman, Comrade Alabi Saviour, Secretary, Comrade Happiness Ilusota, Treasurer and Blessing Ebifagha, Assistant Secretary.
After announcing the winners by the Eleco, the elected members of the chapel took their oath of office, which was administered by the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe.
In his remark, Comrade Alenkhe advised the newly elected officers to strictly adhere to the Constitution of the union when discharging their duties. He also said that as journalist we must be ready to project the union by our actions wherever we are call to serve.
He enjoined the newly sworn in members to work out action plans of activity for the benefit of the chapel and the union in general.
In a brief remark, the Publisher of the Reliance Newspaper, who is also the owner of the Reliance Chapel thanked members for turning up for the election.
He called for unity among the elected officers in order to succeed in the task ahead. He further said that as the owner of the chapel he wanted a transparent election devoid of malpractices, adding that he was satisfied with the outcome of the election.
Okhiria said he believed in the ability of the new chairman, Comrade Ehichioya Stephen Odion and other members of the executive to deliver during their tenure and advised them to work in unity in order to achieve success.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Charman of the Reliance Chapel, and the Publisher of the Groove Watch Magazine, Comrade Ehichioya Stephen Odion thanked the members of the chapel for believing in him to lead the chapel. He also thanked those who contested with him for the maturity and love they displayed in accepting the result of the election and congratulating the winner.
Odion said he is prepared to serve the chapel with the best of his ability and with humility.
He praised Comrade Festus Alenkhe for the leadership qualities he has displayed so far since his assumption of office. He promised to emulate him while piloting the affairs of the Reliance Chapel.
Highlight of the event was the official inauguration of the newly executive officers by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.
In another development, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe hosted Edo journalists to a Valentine Party at the conference room of the council.
The party which was well attended by journalists in Edo State, also attracted other friends of the union.
Since the assumption of office the chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe has taken it as a duty to always host the journalists to a party. He said the reason for doing that is to make sure that the journalists are always happy while doing their work.
He further said that it is not possible for him to be sharing money for all journalists, adding that the only way he can satisfied the journalists and Meet their desire is the project he is presently putting on ground at the Secretariat and the regular party for journalists to wine and dine.
He said the only way the Edo journalists can make him proud is to be a good ambassador to the union wherever they go, and promised to continue with the good work he is doing in the council.
Other leaders present at the Valentine party include, Deacon Ralph Okhiria, Comrade Andy Egbon, Comrade Ehichioya Stephen Odion, Comrade Aliu Ozioruva and others.
You will recalled that the union also organised a classic dinner for journalists last Saturday.
Highlight of the event was the cutting of the Valentine cake by members of the union.
