BENIN CITY -A Governorship Aspirant on the platform of Labour Party (LP), Prince (Dr.) Egbe Humphrey Omorodion has appealed to the leadership of the Labour Party to review the exorbitant cost in purchasing the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Form, noting that the huge amount will mute the voice of Edo State people who are not money bag politicians but yearning for good governance in the State.
Labour Party had announced N30 Million as the cost of obtaining the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for aspirants contesting for the Edo Governorship election.
Dr. Omorodion while addressing journalists at a press conference in Benin City, said the strategy by the leadership of the Party is an attempt to rip off aspirants by placing its Expression of Interest and Nomination Form at N30 Million noting that such cost would discourage credible and qualified aspirants jostling to pick the Labour Party’s governorship ticket.
“The strategy is not right, the governorship aspirants on the platform of the Labour Party feel discriminated as a result of the huge amount for picking the LP’s governorship form.
“I am appealing to Labour Party leadership to please review the cost of purchasing the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form, they have the right to fix the price of picking the forms and I also know the party needs money, but I don’t think this is the best way to raise money”.
“I think recruiting more members and having millions of members to pay small money is the best way to raise funds for the party. It’s not about over charging the few people contesting on the party’s platform,” Omorodion said.
