……Seeks intervention in Okpuje Grammar school,Avbioghola primary school ,others
Comrade Joshua Iraoya
In furtherance of his commitment to improving the decaying state of infrastructures in schools across Owan communities, Chairman, Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services and member representing Owan Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere has again provided a well equipped and taste of the art block of 2 classrooms, offices and stores as well as VIP toilet facilities to pupils of Nomadic Primary School, Ekweran-Ozalla in Owan West Local Government Area in Edo State.
Prior to the provision of the new building and facilities by the Owan Rep, the school had a single block of dilapidated classroom with rickety chairs and desks which made learning a difficult task for pupils.
As a result, the school’s head teacher, Mr Ohiovbeunu Austin, made a passionate plea for intervention and assistance to Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere in the last quarter of 2022, and during the recent electioneering campaigns, the Ozalla community pleaded for necessary logistics support like zincs, planks and nails from Ihonvbere towards solidifying the dilapidated building and putting it in shape to enable pupils continually undergo learning.
Prof Julius Ihonvbere, a lover of education made an instant pledge of five bindles of zincs and other support towards putting back the building into a habitable state and also gave assurances that he would ensure a brand new and fully equipped building is provided for the school after the February 25, 2023 elections.
Though appreciative of the instant pledge of zinc and other support made by Prof Julius Ihonvbere, the countenance on the faces of Ozalla indigenes reflected that of visible indifference, an obvious sign that the people took Ihonvbere’s promise to ensure the construction of a new classrooms block with a pinch of salt and as one of the gimmicks utilized and promises made by the average Nigerian politician geared towards swaying the people’s votes and support towards him
But less than two months after making that promise and in line with his promises-keeper creed, a brand new block of fully equipped 2 classrooms, two offices for teachers, stores and VIP toilet facilities have been delivered to Ekweran Nomadic Primary School, Ozalla for pupils use by Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere.
In a similar vein, the joy of residents of Oke-New, Ukhuse-Oke and parts of Uzebba communities knew no bounds recently, weeks after the February 25 elections, as Ihonvbere, in line with his determination to light up major roads in Owan communities extended the installation of solar street lights to them in order to improve night life and create the needed boost in the socio-economic lives of the people.
Relatedly, succour is on the way for students of Okpuje Grammar School, Ivbieleke-Okpuje and pupils of Avbioghola Primary School, Avbioghola-Okpuje as plans are already in top gear by Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere towards giving needed attention to both schools that are in dire need of infrastructural upgrade.
It is worthy of mention here that barely 24 hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, precisely on February 24, 2023, Prof Julius Ihonvbere took time off his numerous and pressing engagements to pay an on the spot visit to both schools to see for himself areas of their needs. The Owan Rep described as unacceptable the situation he found at Okpuje Grammar School with only one habitable and overstretched block of six classrooms in place with students crowded into the available classrooms while the other existing block of 4 classrooms is in a very bad and uninhabitable state begging for attention.
In contrast to what obtains at Okpuje Grammar School, Prof Julius Ihonvbere discovered to his chagrin that only a block of 3 classrooms meant to accommodate the entire pupils is available at Avbioghola Primary School, Avbioghola-Okpuje.
Respite seems to be on the way for both schools and some others as plans are already at advanced stages towards giving them required intervention.
The renewed vigour by Rep Prof Julius Ihonvbere in the provision of needed infrastructures for Owan schools and communities is a reflection of the renewed vote of confidence recently passed on him by Owan residents who gave him an overwhelming support in his mandate renewal quest.
