BENIN CITY- Edo PDP has appreciated the good people of the state for coming out in their numbers vote overwhelmingly for all the party chairmanship , councillorship candidates in the 18 local government and 192 wards in the state,noting that the outcome is a reflective of the dominance of the party across the state.
The party chairman Dr Tony Aziegbeni gave the appreciation in a press briefing on the outcome of the September 2 ,local government elections where the PDP had a landslide victory across the 18 local government,192 wards and 4519 units in the state .
He also use the occasion to pay a gloring tribute to the governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki ,for allowing the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC)to be truly independent thereby allowing for election results that reflected the wishes of the people .
Dr Aziegbeni subsequently said the party shall strive to ensure that the elected representatives keep to the dictates of the manifesto of the party which emphasized on transparency, equity, fairness and justice in the utilization of resoyfor the development of the local government for the overall benefits of the good people of Edo State .
He pointed out that the elected chairmen and councilors will immediately key into the templates which has been put in place by the Governor Obaseki led administration that have seen Edo State becoming a hub of new businesses , educational revitalization,sports , agriculture and others essentials of development.
He also used the occasion to appreciate the State Independent Electoral Commission for standing upright and shunning all intimidation and blackmail tactics deployed by some enemies of democracy,before and during the Local Government Council elections .
While also pouring encomiums on the opposition parties for putting up a gallant fight ,Dr Aziegbeni noted that in democracy,the minority will have their say but the majority will always have the trophy .
“We extend our hands of fellowship to all who participated in the elections and call on them to join in our determination to make life meaningful and better for our people at the grassroots. The victory in such a contest does not belong to any individual or party but to democracy” he added.
