In continuation of the preparation for the conduct of 2023 Population and Housing Census in Edo State, the National Population Commission on Tuesday held a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders from Oregbeni, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State
The Honourable Federal Commissioner Representing Edo State at the National Population Commission, Abuja, Dr Tony Aiyejina enlightened the people on the House Trial Census coming up which he said is a dress-rehearsal to evaluate all aspects of the census operations on a limited scale before the main census.
He pointed out that if the error made during the past national census did not succeed as expected, the present one being prepared for will be different because it is digitalized with the modern technologies adding that with the technology that will be used to collate the figures nobody can manipulate the figure.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner Representing Edo State enjoined the people to be polite and be receptive when the enumerator comes over for the trial census. It is on the Odionwere, elders and entire people to be educated on the census for them to come out and be counted .
He said what the government wants to do is to fulfill the obligations of government hence the need for the people to ensure they come out to be counted which will help the government to know how to plan and develop the country.
In a brief remark, the Head of Local Government Administration of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Mr Richard Edenamigho urged the people to come out and not only coming out but to also encourage their children and relatives to come out and be counted.
He said the trial census is just to know how this will work out. When it is time for the real census they should all come out and not give excuses that they have been counted earlier, they should be well guirded and educate others on the issue.
He promised that the council will continue to do all within available resources to assist the NPC in the trial census coming up
On their part, the elders appreciated Dr Tony Aiyejina for the enlightenment on the forthcoming trial census and promised to assist the commission fully during the exercise.
The Town Hall meeting was well-attended by the Odionwere, elders, market women and youths from Oregbeni in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
