….marks Global Surveyors Day with a rally round major roads
BENIN CITY- The Chairman, Nigerians Institute of Surveyor (NIS), Edo State branch, Mr. Bruno Odaro Igbinovia has disclosed that the association has arrested five persons for parading themselves as surveyors in the state.
He made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalist Secretariat during a rally to mark the 2024 World Surveyors Day ,with the theme ,Marking Out Resilient Communities and The Wealth of The Nations .
Bruno pointed out that the issue of quackery has been a major challenge in the sector but that the association is making all efforts to get rid of it or reduce it to the barest minimum in the state.
“Quackery is an issue in all professions but in surveys, we are doing our best to ensure that the quacks are pushed out of the system.
“Today as we speak, we have five cases in the police headquarters, Zone 5, Benin where we have been able to arrest five quacks.
“And as a measure to reduce quackery in the system we have the customized paper that we are using and which is the innovation that we have brought into the profession, where the survey paper, must contain the security codes”.
The Chairman also commended the Edo State government for involving the surveyors in the state as they have been able to give their expert advice to government especially in the areas that are convenient for building both commercial and residential development, areas that should be left for erosion control and so on
Responding, the chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, commended their contributions to the nation’s development and urged them to sustain the tempo.
He further decried the incessant attack on them in the course of their duty in the bush.
The chairman assured them that their activities will adequately be given the necessary publicity
