By Ijeoma Umeh
Benin City – Property developers from various communities in Edo state whose property were embroiled in disputes have continued to applaud the performance of the Edo State Private Properties Protection Committee headed by Hon. Justice Alero Edodo-Eruaga (Retd), describing the Committee as “God-sent.”
It will be recalled that following the recovery by the Committee of hundreds of landed properties belonging to developers across Edo communities, the people had tagged the Committee “a legacy project” of the Governor Obaseki-led administration and have continued to sue for its sustenance.
During the Committee’s sitting on Tuesday, October 3, several parties whose cases were resolved sought audience to appear before the Committee to express appreciations over the handling of their cases, describing service rendered as service to humanity.
They prayed for the well-being of the Hon. Justice and her team.
Among Petitioners who commended the Committee was Mr Sunday Osabuohien Ogbe, an oil palm producer whose vast land at Iyera Community in Ovia North East was at the brink of being relinquished to the youths of the community safe for the timely intervention of the Committee.
“I am here today to express my satisfaction on the way the Edo State Private Properties Protection Committee handled my land dispute with my people.
That land dispute threatened my peace and the livelihood of my family. The oil palm processing industry I put up there has been the one providing means of livelihood for my family and means of engagement for some of the youths to eke out a living for themselves and their families. Many indigent men and women come there to mill oil to sell at the village markets.
Today, I express my deepest joy at the peaceful and amicable resolution of the matter. I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.” He stated.
Youths of Iyera Community also agreed with Mr Ogbe’s submission and thanked the Committee for job well done.
The youths say a redesign of community approval documents will help check forgery of Community approval and allocation documents and they assured the Committee that the redesigned approval sheets will be ready within 10 days to enable them conclude on the Resolution.
The parties are expected to appear before the Committee on October 16 to sign the Resolution.
Two other parties appeared before the Committee to say they had settled their differences and to thank the Committee for job well done.
Meanwhile, the Onojie of Uromi, HRH Anslem O. Edenojie has, by his conduct, drawn the ire of the Committee.
Addressing the Press on Tuesday October 3 in Government House Benin City, Hon. Justice Alero Edodo-Eruaga, Chairman of Committee stated that:
“The Respondent, HRH Anslem O. Edenojie, the Onojie of Uromi has taken this Committee for a ride for a long time. We will not continue to wait for him to determine the proceedings. ”
The case involving the Onojie has been adjourned on more than three occasions at the instance of the Onojie, and he would not show up, hence the reaction by the Committee during Tuesday’s hearing of the matter. The case has been postponed till Thursday, October 5.
