Benin City – Commendations have continued to welcome the efforts of the Edo State Private Properties Protection Committee in the discharge of its task of receiving, screening and conducting review proceedings on petitions and restraining offenders who contravene provisions of the Edo State Private Properties Protection Law 2021.
Latest of the commendations came from Chief Victor Osawe, a Petitioner and one of the elders of Iguo-Oshodin Nebudin Village in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
Chief Osawe’s case, which had lingered since 2021, was finally put to rest on Thursday, August 3 with a resolution which granted him recovery of his six Plots of land.
The visibly elated Chief spoke to the Press at the end of hearing on Thursday, and described the Committee’s verdict as “fair and without bias.”
“I feel very happy with the resolution. I was treated well and fairly, all the other parties involved are with me now. They have all agreed to sign the resolutions. Now, we are going to enjoy peace and the spirit of brotherhood that we had enjoyed in the past.” he stated.
He thanked the Edo State Government for setting up the Committee and sued the Committee to continue in its services of entrenching peace in Edo Communities.
“This Committee is working perfectly! There is no corruption, no bias, no sentiments, no negativities at all in this Committee. I recommend it fully, and I give kudos to Governor Godwin Obaseki for this worthwhile initiative. It is a great achievement for the state and is helping in the development and progress of Edo State .” Chief Osawe stated.
The Committee heard 30 cases at Thursday’s sitting, including reports from the investigative police teams on settlements, arrests made and progress of cases still under investigations.
While some cases were either closed as a result of settlement or struck out for inability of parties to prosecute their cases, the Committee enjoined parties to ensure they appeared for hearing in company of their witnesses and to tender all documents relevant in speaking to their petitions.
Sitting continues in Benin City.
