BENIN CITY-The All Progressive Congress (APC) Edo State chapter has notify the general public of the alleged clandestine and sinister move of the Governor ,Mr Godwin Obaseki to use Edo State Vigilante Network to intimidate ,harass and cause mayhem during and after the elections particularly in the rural areas of the state
This was contain in a press release signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party Prince (Barr)Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie and made available to the press .
He pointed out that it must be noted with serious concern that the Electoral Act 2022 did not and never envisage the use of vigilante personnel for security duties during election adding that for the avoidance of doubt ,the only security agents contemplated in the Act for security duties during elections is the Police.
Continuing, he said APC as a party is very happy to see the level of enthusiasm demonstrated by Edo people towards a hitch free participation in the election
The party State Publicity Secretary pointed out that that APC abhors any act(s) capable of distrupting the election and called on the Police as well as other sister agencies to ensure that these unholy design of the governor is curtailed adding that the party shall not fail to resist any deliberate move of the governor to scuttle or cause mayhem during the elections with the Edo Vigilante service personel
He then used the occasion to thank the Edo people for their motivation and high spirit to be involved in the elections
However attempt to get the commissioner for information and orientation for response was not successful at the time of filling in the reports
