The Executive Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Area Council, Hon. Solomon Obomighie has called on communities in the riverine areas to take precautions regarding the imminent flood threat occasioned by incessant down pour in the area.
Hon. Obomighie made the call during an advocacy campaign to sensitize residents in the communities on the impending dangers caused by flood and the need to prepare their minds to move to safer locations within the local government area.
He said the recent rise in water levels and weather pattern had significantly increased the risk of impending flood in some parts of the country and communities in Edo State, especially Etsako Central Local Government, hence, the need to create the awareness.
“The primary objective of this sensitization campaign is to inform and educate the residents in these communities about the potential risks that could be associated with the imminent flood within the next couple of weeks,” he said.
The Chairman however urged the residents to remain vigilant and responsive to the advice and directives provided by the State Government, emphasizing on the importance of community support and cooperation during such challenging times.
He called on community leaders and all stakeholders to work together in implementing preventive measures and providing assistance to those who may be in need.
He reiterated the State Government’s commitment through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to monitor the weather situation for the safety of her citizens.
Some of the communities that could be affected in the Local Government Area include, Udaba, Osomegbe, Ufukpo and Anegbette.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government through NEMA had earlier announced fourteen states and thirty one communities that may be affected by the heavy downpour which would lead to flooding.
