BENIN CITY- A former commissioner and governorship aspirant in the just concluded primaries, Hon . Washington Osa Osifor has called on all former gubernatorial aspirants and their followers to shield their swords and put the interest of the party above personal interest and primordial sentiments
Hon Washington Osa Osifor made the call while briefing the press on the APC governorship primary held on Saturday 17th February 2024, at the Nigeria Union of Journalist Secretariat, Benin City
He said the argument about who has the responsibility to announce results is clearly myopic and casuistic pointing out that only four years ago ,the same Governor Hope Uzodima played exactly the same role in 2019 and also similar committees have been constituted to conduct primaries across the country where the chairmen announced results.
He added that the exercise of Saturday ,17th February 2024 was not so flawed as painted and no major party has the capacity to conduct a free and fair primary election without leadership interference which he said is integral to the party system,whose main focus is how to present a candidate who is well entrenched in the party and could muster the political muscle to win the election.
While commending all the former governorship Aspirants for the discipline of strictly sticking to issue based campaigns during meetings with party members , Hon Osifor urged them to come together and work for the party and governorship Candidate,Hon Dennis Idahosa in the interest of the party and edo people in general
He however noted that the challenges of protestation after elections is not uncommon and that they need to revitalize and utilize all the circuits of power to overcome the steel hearted ,brutal and hydra headed opponent in the main elections .
