BENIN CITY-The Edo State Police Command has declared one Mr Omokaro Osifo wanted for the alleged murder of his friend ,Christo Ogiemien on the 24th of December 2021
This was again made known to the public during a press briefing today by the force public relations officer SP Chidi Nwabuzor.
Meanwhile this has earlier been contained in a police gazette made available to newsmen in Benin City for any one to come forward for useful information that could lead to the arrest of the said Omokaro Osifo.
The police gazette gave no details as regards Mr Omokaro Osifo’s complicity in the alleged murder against him , our correspondence however gathered from a reliable source that the late Christo Ogiemien who was a very close friend to Omokaro was last seen with him on the 24th of December 2021 .
Narrating further the source said the statement of the accused Omokaro Osifo obtained from him explained that they both went out on the said date to a popular hotel in Benin City and decided to go back home in the early hours of the next day on a public transport that drop both of them at a junction to enable them work down to their various home.
He added that on getting to his house they both separated while he Christo Ogiemien continue his walk to his abode which was not too far from Omokaro Osifo’s house ,but was taken aback when the next day at about 12 pm Christo’ s father came to his (Omokaro) house that his friend they both went out together did not return back home and he Omokaro explained that they both came together between 2-3 am and separated in from of his house
The source explaining further said the matter was reported to the police and both parties began to search for the Christo Ogiamen till they got a report on the 26th of December that his lifeless body was found by an unknown person in a different place far from where he lived .
It was further learnt that the late Christo ‘s family who are very prominent in the city had earlier reported to the police accusing the said Mr Omokaro Osifo as the principal suspect of the crime and was subsequently arrested and transferred from the Divisional police station to the Area Command and later to the State Police headquarters due to the powerful influence of the Ogiemien family .
The source further told the correspondent following up the report that the said Mr Omokaro Osifo was seriously tortured,hanged on a daily basis without food for days as well as denied medical care despite his health problems and all efforts by his lawyer, human right activist and civil society organization to perfect his bail from police custody was unsuccessful
The source pointed out that the father of the late Christo Ogiamen extended the manhunt to Mr Omokaro Osifo’s wife and children prompting them to flee from the area thereby depriving them of their education, but the incarcerated Mr Omokaro Osifo however got respite when some arrested criminals caused problem and break out of the cells and some of them escaped, but the family of the late Christo Ogiamen has vowed to take their pound of flesh even as his family are confused ,they do not know his whereabout as at the time of this report
However when contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer in Edo State Police Command,SP Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the report ,but added that there is a manhunt to get the alleged killer of the late Christo Ogiamen.
