BENIN CITY- The All Progressive Congress (APC) Edo State chapter has raised alarm over the clandestine plan by the state Governor,Mr Godwin Obaseki and his agents to cause mayhem before ,during and after the elections particularly in Edo south and Edo north
The State Chairman of the party Col David Imuse rtd made this known while briefing the press on the alleged plans of the state government.
He said the party has privilege and credible information that the state governor has procured military and police uniforms, arms and ammunition for both the state security network (vigilante),known PDP thugs ,members of secret cults and the National Union of Road Transport workers (NURTW) under one Mr Odion Olaye ,with plans for them to disrupt the House of Assembly elections coming up a few days from now
The chairman enumerated the planned method of operations as set out to include ,those with uniforms will be on patrol pretending to be soldiers and policemen ,those that will be on mufti will queue up with the voters,they will be armed by the governor with procured and licensed pump action rifles, they are to destroy ballot boxes and other electoral materials in any unit they see that they are not winning especially during counting of votes and that they have been given clear orders to shoot when necessary as the governor has assured them of adequate protection.
He further said the governor has allegedly procured the NURTW under the leadership of one Mr Odion Olaye to transport election materials to unknown destinations where rigging can be carried out adding that this violet operations is to be carried out especially in Edo Central and Edo south.
“We know that the main objective of the Edo State governor is to get these fake security personnel and thugs to the designated polling stations on Edo Central and Edo south on election day ,to interrupt and terminate elections in the units that the PDP is losing on order for INEC to cancel the results” he added.
He subsequent noted that it contravenes the order of the Inspector General of Police that all thugs , vigilante,poachers and fake state sponsored security services such as the Edo State Security Network are disqualified to be anywhere near any polling stations and collation centers on election day
The chairman then urged the state police command to remain vigilant so that the Edo State Government troublemakers do not make the state ungovernable and also a call to other security agencies deployed in the state to be aware of their responsibility to avoid a backlash from these criminals
He warned that if these thugs are allowed to express themselves,the state will come under severe pressure and called on heads of state security agencies not to give in to the state government financial incentives which may reduce the election to one of Obaseki’s PDP versus the Edo people
Reacting to the allegations,the Special Adviser to Edo governor on media and strategic planning, Mr Crusoe Osagie denied the allegations adding that the governor is committed to free,fair credible elections in the state.
Similarly the chairman of NURTW,Mr Odion Olaye denied the allegations saying he was not aware of such assignment by the governor for him to use NURTW vehicles to convene election materials.
