…says Obaseki Loan of N3.5bn is a slight on Edo pople
BENIN CITY- Edo State Publicity Secretary of Labour Party (LP), Comrade Sam Oroupa has said come 2024, the incoming government of Labour Party in the State would not be associated with reckless and unnecessary borrowing of loans.
Comrade Oroupa made the statement at the party secretariat in Benin City, while reacting to the recent N3.5bn loan approval granted to Governor Godwin Obaseki by the outgoing Edo State 7th House of Assembly during its valedictory session last week.
“Labour Party is a party with clear-cut ideologies and policies of development, people oriented programs and blueprints tailored to bring about social justice, equity and an egalitarian society.
“Edo people can no longer afford to mortgage their future and collective destiny into the hands of a government that has sold them into slavery through reckless loans and borrowings. Both the APC and PDP that have ruled Edo State have both left huge debt burden on the State.
“You will recall that this government originated from APC but only just crossed over to PDP and were the architect of the borrowings.”
Going further, Comrade Sam Oroupa added: “the recent N3.5bn loan approval granted Governor Godwin Obaseki by the outgoing rubber stamp 7th Edo State House of Assembly during its valedictory session is a slight on the sensibility of Edo people. The loan granted the governor was not necessary as it would not impart the lives of the people of Edo state.
“The loan is nothing but a parting gift to friends and cronies to buy cars and landed properties at the expense of meaningful development for Edo people.
“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under Governor Godwin Obaseki has plunged the state into serious and excruciating debt and the only way the state would come out clean from such careless and needless indebtedness is to do away with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State and vote in a Labour Party governor come 2024, who is coming with people centric initiatives that would revamp the dwindling socio economic and political fortunes of the state and also bridge the gap between the rich and the poor”.
The State Publicity Secretary of LP further added that the envisaged government of Labour Party in Edo Sate come 2024 would respect traditional institutions in the state.
“The LP government in Edo State come 2024 will give maximum respect to the traditional institutions and recognize their place in community building,” he assured.
Recall the outgoing 7th Edo State House of Assembly which ended its plenary session on Thursday, 8th June, 2023 approved the sum of N3.5 billion contract facility loan to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
