Democracy as a concept is one that generates utmost concern and attracts the attention of people from varied background, especially due to its wide acceptability as the most popular and prescribed mode of governance through which the generality of the people partake in the common patrimony through their elected representatives
It is against this backdrop that the member representing Owan Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere, who just got re-elected by his Constituents has been at the forefront of not only ensuring that the people gets adequately represented in the performance of his core legislative duties, but equally ensures that what is due to the people in terms of basic infrastructures and other forms of interventions gets to them irrespective of political leanings.
All these he does with utmost passion and empathy hence it was not much of a surprise that the Owan people renewed their mandate in him in order for them to continue to enjoy the attendant benefits that accrues from a very worthy and passionate representative.
IHONVBERE’S IMPACT ACROSS.
Apart from impacting positively on his immediate constituency which has earned him numerous accolades and colourfully feathered cap, Rt Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere equally have his tentacles anchored across the length and breath of the country and even beyond our shores just like a father that has many children who are all doing great to the admiration of their father.
As a teacher, many of Prof Julius Ihonvbere’s products are presently holding positions of authority through which they are impacting positively on their immediate environment, state and the country at large.
For example, Gov Nyesom WIke of Rivers State was once under the tutelage of Prof Julius Ihonvbere at the University of Port-Harcourt. WIke is widely acclaimed to be doing well.
In the just concluded elections, another individual who also went through the good hands of Prof Julius Ihonvbere at the University of Port-Harcourt, Dr Alex Otti also emerged as the Governor-Elect of Abia State. Judging by Otti’s pedigree, there is no doubt that he would do well as Governor haven successfully cut his teeth in the private sector.
Dr Alex Otti last known engagement was as CEO/GMD of Diamond Bank of Nig. PLC where he resigned from in 2014 to contest as Abia State Governor in 2015 under the auspices of APGA. Though he was declared winner by the Appeal Court, but the Supreme Court upturned the judgement and declared Okezie Ikpeazu of the PDP as duly elected.
Dr Alex Otti who is highly respected for his wealth of knowledge, said in 2014 upon his resignation from Diamond Bank that he is “setting out on a mission to free Abia State from decades of misrule and put it on a road to progress and shared prosperity”
Even though he didn’t emerge successful at his first and second attempts, Otti remained undaunted, persistently remained focused with eyes on the ball, and showed great perseverance in the face of extreme difficulties which ultimately paid off on March 18, 2023 when he inflicted a colossal defeat on his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the PDP, whom he trounced with 175,467 votes as against his opponent 88,529 votes.
It is expected that Rt Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere will again be there for this prodigy of his whom he mentored to become the success story he is today, just like he has been to Nyesom WIke by offering useful advice and direction where necessary.
